Wild in the Streets

Poetry? Yes, please.

“What wildlife can possibly flourish
where life’s no longer wild?”

I am a huge fan of children's poetry, so I'm super excited to feature one of my favorite poetry books which shines the spotlight on 20 urban dwelling animals. Each 2-page spread is dedicated to a city creature with a poem on the left and an informational paragraph about the species on the right. Author Marilyn Singer is a phenomenal poet, employing a variety of poetry forms (which she breaks down and explains at the end of the book) and crafting fun, fascinating verses that are easy for kids to understand and delightful to read aloud.

We learned so much cool stuff from this book, like the reason why storks are linked to delivering babies to people's homes, and the Japanese legend that lead to Sika deer being regarded as sacred animals.
