Moms Read Too, You Know.
What’s On My Nightstand.
Many of you have asked me what I'm reading, so I've put together my short list of three recent reads that I highly recommend.
1. Writers & Lovers by Lily King
2. Eat Joy: Stories & Comfort Food from 31 Celebrated Writers edited by Natalie Eve Garrett
3. The Dutch House by Ann Patchett
I wholeheartedly rooted for Casey, the narrator, all throughout this book. We meet her when she is mourning the loss of her mother, getting over a devastating breakup, and struggling to finish the draft of her first novel. You'll cheer for her, in life and love, all throughout this exquisitely written book.
Reading and eating are my favorite things to do, so when you put them together I basically explode with happiness. The short stories in this compilation are written by the most celebrated authors of our time, including Anthony Doerr (All the Light We Cannot See), Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie (Americanah), and Colum McCann (Let the Great World Spin). Each short story reads like a perfect bite, and the book leaves you satisfied like a perfect meal.
I was enthralled by this "rags to riches and back again" tale. At the end of World War II, a poor family becomes extremely wealthy through real estate. The father uses his newfound fortune to purchase a lavish mansion in the suburbs of Philadelphia, known as "the Dutch House." A character in its own right, the house goes on to serve as both the glue that holds the family together, and the poison that tears it apart. The writing has a quiet beauty that lures you in, and you won't want to put it down.
