Go Ahead, Hold It Upside-Down 🙃

You’re a clever one, eh?
I See, I See. is an incredibly creative book unlike any I’ve ever seen before. Rather than sit side-by-side, readers sit across from each other so that one person’s rightside-up viewing of the text and illustration is the other’s upside-down. It’s a trick that allows author-illustrator Robert Henderson to play with perspective in a genius way that teaches young readers the concept of opposites.
“I see smile …
… and I see frown.”
Full page artwork that is bold and graphic delights the eye, even as your mind is tricked into thinking you’re looking at one thing while your co-reader sees another. A mostly empty glass to one viewer looks nearly full to another, a soaring acrobat rotates 180 degrees to become a diving swimmer, and a particularly impressive image looks like a mom from one angle and a bearded dad from the other! In addition to practicing opposites, this is also a great tandem-reading book for beginning readers. Parents can read the opening line of text on their side, then kids can complete the simple sentence by sounding out their companion text. Interactive books are always fun, and this one is a total blast.
